“French boy ‘sets himself alight at school in Marseille’” [BBC Repost]

From the BBC news site, a story about a French kid setting himself on fire.

What’s the betting this poor kid is gay or otherwise not heteronormative?

“Ohio Supreme Court Denies Law License for Grad with $170,000 in Student Loans” [ABC NEWS Repost]

Posted in Politics on January 18, 2011 by Dashiell Barlow

Seriously bothersome post over at ABC News about an Ohio law school grad who’s been denied his  license to practice law (his best chance to repay his debt) because he has major debt.

Is this only scary for me, because I want to go into law, or is this scary on the face of it in a more general sense?

Thoughts on Music

Posted in Music on January 16, 2011 by Dashiell Barlow

This has been on my mind as of late. Through the past few days, I’ve been listening to a lot of Eminem/Dr. Dre/other rap — and I’ve been wondering. What the fuck is the problem with this shit for so many people? Is it the obscenity? Wal-Mart has clean versions, god dammit.

Good music is good music, which is irrelevant of genre. That’s how you know someone who really likes music — they talk about bands they love, as opposed to genres they won’t give a chance or a listen to.

This is an absolutely heart-warming, but very sad, simple story of human compassion from over at CNN.

“Fact About Jared Loughner I Didn’t Need To Know Of The Day” [ReBlog]

“This is the opening paragraph in a story at The New York Times of all places:

Law enforcement officials said Friday they have multiple photos of Jared L. Loughner posing with a Glock 9mm gun next to his naked buttocks and dressed in a bright red g-string.

And, no, I neither have nor want to see those pictures.”

Frankly, I don’t want to see them either. Good god.

Warren Ellis Nails it Right on the Head

Posted in Uncategorized on January 11, 2011 by Dashiell Barlow

Here, take a look at the original post on Warren Ellis’ site.

Evidently this Travis Corcoran is not only advocating violence, but stating that the murder of public officials is acceptable.

Mr. Ellis asks that we not buy his work through Heavy Ink. I have a slightly different idea.

Boycott his online comics retailer, Heavy Ink alltogether. There is no other appropriate response.
